Harvest Noon Cafe is seeking motivated, personable, and responsible individuals who have an interest in supporting the local, organic food movement to fill the temporary position of Cafe Staff. Three (3) positions are available.
The Organization
Harvest Noon is an initiative of the Toronto Sustainable Food Co-operative (TSFC), made possible by the support of the University of Toronto Graduate Students’ Union. Harvest Noon sources our food from local, organic farms and is committed to providing affordable, healthy, vegan and vegetarian food options on campus. We are currently entirely volunteer run and rely on our volunteer base for maintaining the day-to-day operations of the cafe. With the addition of hired staff to our collective we will be able to better fulfil our mandate and expand the programming that we offer.
The Position
The role of Cafe Staff entails carrying out the day-to-day operations of the cafe, including food preparation, cooking, serving, engaging with customers, basic daily accounting, clean-up and general up-keep of the space. The position also entails orienting and working alongside cafe volunteers. Staff will report once weekly to the TSFC Board. This is a great opportunity for individuals interested in gaining experience working in a non-profit environment and being a part of the good food movement.
Qualifications
Interest in contributing to the local, organic food movement
Demonstrated ability to skillfully prepare healthy and delicious meals
Self-motivated, organized and reliable
Excellent collaborative skills and a demonstrated ability to cooperatively share responsibility with volunteers and co-workers
Excellent communication skills
Professional experience in food service an asset
Experience interacting with customers an asset
Knowledge of local food systems and sustainable agricultural practices an asset
Experience with not-for-profit, volunteer-supported and/or co-operative organizations an asset
Food Safety Certified (or willingness to become certified before the position commences)
Available to work weekdays
Internship Terms
The Cafe Staff is a contract position for approximately 14 hours per week at a rate of $11 per hour. The position has a negotiable start date in June 2012 through until September 1, 2012.

Harvest Noon Contract Posting – Volunteer Coordinator

Harvest Noon Cafe is seeking an organized, personable, and creative individual who has an interest in supporting the local, organic food movement to fill the temporary contract position of Volunteer Coordinator.
The Organization

Harvest Noon sources our food from local, organic farms and is committed to providing affordable, healthy, vegan and vegetarian food options on campus. We are currently entirely volunteer run and rely on our volunteer base for maintaining the day-to-day operations of the cafe.
The Position
The primary work of the Volunteer Coordinator is weekly volunteer scheduling and daily email communication. The responsibilities of the Volunteer Coordinator can be done entirely over email but occasional visits to the café would be ideal.
Qualifications
- Interest in contributing to the local, organic food movement
- Ability to coordinate and schedule volunteers
- Excellent collaborative skills, demonstrated ability to work well with students, volunteers, and co-workers
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Experience with not-for-profit organizations an asset
- Familiarity with a university/college environment an asset
Internship Terms
The Volunteer Coordinator is an unpaid contract position of 3-5 hours per week for 3 months. The contract is from June 2012 to August 31, 2012.

Harvest Noon Contract Posting – Treasurer

Harvest Noon Cafe is seeking an organized, personable, and responsible individual who has an interest in supporting the local, organic food movement to fill the temporary internship position of Treasurer.
The Organization
Harvest Noon is an initiative of the Toronto Sustainable Food Co-op, made possible by the support of the University of Toronto Graduate Students’ Union. Harvest Noon sources our food from local, organic farms and is committed to providing affordable, healthy, vegan and vegetarian food options on campus. We are currently entirely volunteer run and rely on our volunteer base for maintaining the day-to-day operations of the cafe.
The Position
The primary work of the Treasurer entails end-of-week accounting duties such making deposits, matching daily sales reports with deposits, managing the petty cash account and submitting weekly reports to the Toronto Sustainable Food Co-operative (TSFC) Board of Directors. Additional tasks including preparing monthly expense claims and account statements and acting as a liaison between the Board and the bookkeeper.
This is a great opportunity for individuals interested in gaining professional accounting and finance experience in a not-for-profit start-up.

- Experience with cash-handling and financial record-keeping
- Interest in contributing to the local, organic food movement
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented and accountable
- Excellent collaborative skills, demonstrated ability to work well with students, volunteers, and co-workers
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability for high level of organization
- Experience with not-for-profit organizations an asset
