The Environment Week Opening Event is taking place in the Upper Dining Room at the Faculty Club (41 Wilcocks St.) this Friday (March 7th) from 6pm to 8pm. The event agenda is as follows,
6 :10pm – 6 :20pm Introduction by ENSU
6 :20pm – 6 :50pm Climate Reality Project speech given by Liz Rice of Enviro-Health Presentations
6 :55pm – 7 :05pm Keynote Presentation by Daryn Caister
7 :10pm – 7 :50pm Panel Discussion – “21st Century Environmentalism – Actions and Roles of Youth”
7 :50pm – 8 :00pm Closing & refreshment

A series of interesting workshops will be taking place to discuss current environmental issues, sustainable living, and greening efforts on a macro or micro level. The goal is to share with students what society and stakeholders can do tackle those issues, and how.

Friday March 7th
♣ UofT Environmental Career Day
10am – 3pm, Great Hall of Hart House
Talk with exhibitors from organizations representing government, industry, consulting and ENGO’s. Attend the Environmental Employment Opportunities Workshop: “What I Need to Know to Get a Job!”, and hear from speakers with extensive career experience and expert career advice. Get expert advice, including about your resumé, from the U of T Career Centre. Bring your TCard!
♣ Environment Week Opening Keynote and Panel Discussion, presented by ENSU
6pm – 8pm, The Faculty Club
Keynotes by Daryn Caister (Green Majority) and Liz Rice (Enviro-Health Presentations). The topic for the panel discussion is “21st Century Environmentalism – Actions and Roles of Youth”. **Registration is required, please bring your TCard and your ticket: http://www.eventbrite.ca/
Saturday March 8th
♣ Winter Retreat at Hart House Farm, organized by Ecology and Spirituality at UofT, Ecumenical Chaplaincy of UofT (ECUT) and Multi-Faith Centre University of Toronto
10am – 7pm, Hart House Farm
A day-long retreat at Hart House Farm, featuring activities such as a nature walk and winter tree identification, as well as discussions about the importance of local and seasonal foods through a workshop led by Dig In Campus Agriculture. We also aim to look at the ways in which different faiths or belief systems may approach the idea of ecology and the environment through our aforementioned activities.
Monday March 10th
♣ How Your Diet Could Save the World

Students will be educated about how their dietary choices affect their environmental impact. We aim to empower people to make more informed, better choices about what we eat.
Tuesday March 11th
♣ You Are What You Drink, presented by ENSU
1pm – 2pm, KP113 (Koffler House)
Join the Environmental Students’ Union to celebrate Environment Week with an engaging presentation by Professor Romila Verma about water, and its global uses and polices. Prof. Verma teaches water resources and hydrology in the department of Geography, specializing in integrated watershed management, climate change impact modeling and environmental education. ♣ The Sunken Billions, presented by UofT Marine Life Advocacy
5pm – 6pm, New College Lounge
Oceanic sustainability through an economic perspective. The UN has a report, the Sunken Billions, about how mismanagement of fisheries is costing $50 billion per year. This talk will discuss marine sustainability from an economic perspective. There is tremendous economic potential in sustaining the oceans.
♣ The Sustainable Engineers Association (SEA) hosts: GM Sustainability Workshop, presented by Simon Guan

General Motors of Canada Ltd. (GM) is committed to reducing the environmental impact of our vehicles and facilities. The GM Sustainability Workshop will provide a great opportunity for UofT students to get to know more about how General Motors of Canada Ltd. moves towards sustainability.
Wednesday March 12th
♣ UofT Energy Fair: Exploring Canada’s Energy Future
10am – 4:30pm, Bahen Lobby
This one-day fair aims to create a platform for discussions around energy topics between students, industry players, academia members and policy makers. The fair consists of a full day exhibition in the Bahen lobby and workshops and panel discussions happening throughout the day.
♣ Greening the Olympics, presented by ENSU

Join the Environmental Students’ Union to celebrate Environment Week with an engaging presentation by Dr. Erich Vogt about Greening the Olympics. Dr. Vogt’s interests address the policies and politics of climate change, contemporary international environmental issues and global governance innovations. Event page: https://www.facebook.com/
♣ Dig In! Soil Blocking / Seeding Workshop
5pm – 6:30 pm, Anthropology Green House (2nd floor of Anthropology Building)
Growing our own seedlings for our gardens creates learning opportunities for students, while allowing our group to be more self-sufficient. Participants will learn about seedling production through hands-on instruction.
Thursday March 13th
♣ Cycling and Politics in Toronto, presented by Bikechain
7pm – 9pm, 563 Spadina Crescent, Bancroft Entrance
Cycling is an essential part of transportation for many people in Toronto, yet planned improvements for cycling often meet with resistance from politicians and the public. This workshop will help participants to understand the major cycling issues that are currently facing Torontonians, including background and placement in Toronto’s general transportation context.

Friday March 14th
♣ Chew on This! UofT Student Food Justice Round-Table: Focus on What You Do Best
12pm – 2pm, OISE 5230
A facilitated discussion around food justice issues with University of Toronto student groups currently involved in food campaigns, initiatives or services on campus. The event will serve as a networking opportunity for participating groups to learn about each other’s initiatives, share resources and best practices, and perhaps form new partnerships.
♣ Bike Tune-up Workshop, presented by Betty & Dash and the UofT Sustainability Office “It’s Greener in Here” Campaign! 3pm – 4pm, Basement of Goldring Student Centre
Betty & Dash is a bike share program at Victoria College that promotes students biking around campus by lending out their collection of bikes! Betty & Dash will be hosting a spring tune-up workshop where students can learn some general maintenance tips for their bikes, especially as we are headed out of winter! The event aims to promote biking as an alternative to driving or taking transport.
Saturday March 15th
♣ Blue Sky Solar Racing Shop Tours
1pm – 1:30pm, Engineering Annex, 1st floor 10 King’s College Road, Suite B540
Visitors will take a look around the Blue Sky Solar shop where numerous solar cars have been built over the years. The event is intended to encourage students to participate in clubs, to take the initiative to create something truly remarkable and to be a part of the renewable energy movement.
